Dear Whitfield families, friends and alumni,
At the conclusion of the academic year, I experience a variety of emotions – nostalgia, gratitude, delight and just a touch of sadness that another year is already over. Most of all, however, I am filled with pride for our students, especially our graduating seniors. This year is no exception, as the Class of 2012 has given us so many reasons to be proud.
On Wednesday evening May 30, I was honored to present diplomas to 73 graduating seniors. These talented and intelligent individuals have been admitted to 163 of this country's most outstanding colleges and universities. They have received $1,819,626 in honorary scholarships – the highest total in Whitfield history! As these young men and women begin the next chapter of their lives, I am confident that they will have as positive an impact in their collegiate environments as they did here at Whitfield.
I am also very proud of our students in grades 6 to 11 who just completed another step in their Whitfield journeys. Our middle school and high school students worked diligently this year to excel in the classroom, on the playing field, on stage, in the art studio and beyond. I am confident that they will return next school year ready for continued success.
The success of our students is directly linked to our outstanding faculty and the quality of teaching that is the foundation of the Whitfield educational experience. I am proud to have led this group of talented professionals and I am excited about the innovative curricula and ideas they are already preparing for the 2012-2013 academic year.
The phenomenal work of our teachers and students is only possible because it is supported by the other important constituents in our community, including our parents, grandparents, friends and alumni. The Annual Fund is the vehicle by which the love of this community crystallizes into tangible support for our educational mission. It’s not too late to demonstrate your support this school year, and you can do so by clicking here.
Thank you for all the wonderful ways each and every one of you contributed to the success of this school year. Your donations of money, time, creativity and energy have had a profound impact on the School, this year and beyond. I continue to be amazed by the generous, kind and enthusiastic spirit of the Whitfield community.
I was deeply honored to serve as Interim Head of School this year. This summer, I will transition back to my role as Principal. Please join me in enthusiastically welcoming our new Head of School, John Delautre. Have a safe, restful and fun-filled summer!
Sincerely,
Ruth E. Greathouse
