Alumni Musicians: Morissa Pepose '11
Morissa Pepose ‘13 reports that “after finding my passion for performing in the theatre productions (thanks, Ms. Allen!) and singing in choir (thanks, Ms. File!) at Whitfield School, I continued to learn about the world of opera.” This led her to studies in Milan, Italy, Berlin, Germany, and most recently to the completion of a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance summa cum laude from the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College in the studio of Mark Schnaible in June 2020. Now fluent in Italian, Morissa completed her undergraduate music degree magna cum laude at Brandeis University with a minor in Italian Studies. Most recently, she participated in master classes for acclaimed soprano Barbara Frittoli and renowned baritone Sherrill Milnes and performed as a soloist in Fauré's Requiem at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn, NY with the Grace Chorale of Brooklyn.
She has performed the roles of Erste Dame in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Geraldine in Barber's A Hand of Bridge, Suor Osmina in Puccini's Suor Angelica, and other roles as part of multiple international music festivals, such as the International Summer Opera Program in Tel Aviv. She looks forward to learning new roles and performing for a live audience once the pandemic ends!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Morissa has put her skills to use by creating and organizing a virtual concert series for young artists from around the globe, titled Knock Knock, Ar-ia Home? which can be viewed on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. She also continues to teach young singers, pianists, Italian-lovers, and budding performers remotely. You can follow more of Morissa’s career on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or on her website morissapepose.com.
