Family Social Events

Community—among our students, families, faculty and staff—is important Whitfield.  The school hosts several social events for parents throughout the year to build community and foster connections among our families.

Parent Pop-up Party

The events listed include both parent-only and full-community.  We believe both kinds of events are essential to strengthening our community.

Class Coffees

Class Coffees take place at the start of the school year to bring together parents from each class to meet one another, meet their the Parent Liaisons and school leadership. Attendees gather in the Barnes & Cole Alumni House for coffee and breakfast, brief remarks and introductions.

Green & White Games

Whitfield's annual Green & White Games kick off the start of the new school year! Parents, students, alumni, faculty and staff are all invited to watch the Warriors' fall athletic teams scrimmage, while reconnecting with friends and meeting families who are new to our school.

New Parent Social

The New Parent Social is an annual event hosted by our Head of School, John Delautre and his wife, Anne at their home adjacent to the school. This casual, outdoor event brings all of Whitfield’s new families together for a fun evening of socializing with one another and key school administrators.

Parent Pop-up Parties

These happy hour events provide parents of students of all grade levels and interest areas a chance to come together to catch up and mingle with other parents.  Strictly social, these events have no agenda other than building community.

Trivia Night (Fall)

Trivia Night is a fun-filled, casual event held in Woods Hall. Tickets are $25 per person.  guests are encouraged to choose a fun theme for their table of 10. All proceeds benefit the Whitfield Fund.

The night includes a delicious catered dinner, open bar, silent and live auctions, a dessert dash, and dancing!  Whitfield parents, parents of alumni, alumni and friends come back time and time again and some say it’s their favorite party of the year!

Guest Speakers

Parents Council, in tandem with our Director of Health and Wellness Ginny Fendell, often bring guest speakers to campus to speak on a variety of topics that relate to our school community. Many of these events have both a component that occurs during the school day, and also a version of the event that is open to the entire community during the evening so that families may attend as well. For example, in 2019 Whitfield hosted New York Times bestselling author and psychologist Lisa Damour, Ph.D, who  gave an engaging and informative talk to our students about managing stress and anxiety. Later that evening, she presented a parent-focused version of this content at John Burroughs School with a talk titled “Guiding Students Into Adulthood: Helping them manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges along the way” which was open to all parents and community members.
