AP Chemistry Investigates Reaction Kinetics

AP Chemistry students recently explored reaction kinetics through the classic iodine clock reaction. By conducting the experiment at a microscale, students were able to complete multiple trials within a single class period and analyze how changes in concentration affected reaction rate. Using graphical analysis of their data, the class determined the order of the reaction with respect to hydrogen peroxide. The experiment also offered a familiar point of entry, as many students recognized the reaction from videos circulating on social media.
