Glassman Leaders Program
Robert Glassman ‘02 was an active member of his class and embraced the learning opportunities Whitfield provided. He also sought learning opportunities outside of the classroom. He participated in the Dale Carnegie Course, a world-famous course that “gives you the communication and people skills to succeed in any setting.” Rob cites this program, along with his studies at Whitfield, as being a transformative experience that helped him become the successful trial lawyer he is today. (For more on Rob, see his alumni profile here.)
Rob believes in giving back, and in August 2020 he began working with administrators at Whitfield to explore ways in which he could make a difference in the life of our school and our students. Out of these conversations, Rob made a leadership gift to the school to establish the Glassman Leaders program.
Through the Glassman Leaders program, Whitfield aims to further develop public speaking, networking, and interpersonal communication skills in a select group of Upper School students with a demonstrated interest in improving in these areas. When layering the Glassman Leaders program on top of the existing leadership development curriculum offered at Whitfield, this small group of students will grow into confident, skilled, and resourceful public-facing leaders. Specific components of the program include attending the eight-week, world famous Dale Carnegie Course which focuses on building communication skills for business people as well as students, a mentorship with one or more Whitfield alumni, and a Capstone project senior year.
Juniors and seniors who have or currently are participating in Whitfield’s Leadership Development Series were offered the opportunity to apply to this program from which one junior and one senior would be selected. After completing an application comprised of short answers, references, and a video response, finalists were interviewed.
The inaugural Glassman Leaders are Evie Doles ‘23 (l) and Dean Warren ‘22 (r).
