Introducing The Whitfield School’s Student Philanthropy Board: Empowering Student Leaders in Philanthropy
The Whitfield School is thrilled to announce the launch of a new initiative designed to inspire students to give back—introducing the Student Philanthropy Board. This program aims to foster a spirit of generosity among students, encouraging them to dedicate their time, talent, and resources to make a positive impact on both our school and the broader community. Through this board, students will gain leadership experience, engage in service efforts, and actively participate in fundraising activities.
Opportunities for Leadership and Engagement
The Student Philanthropy Board is an exciting opportunity for students to take on leadership roles while making a meaningful contribution to their community. One of the highlights of the program is the formation of the Student Philanthropy Board Executive Committee. Members of this committee will oversee key decisions regarding club funding and philanthropy-related initiatives throughout the school year.
To apply for these leadership positions, students will need two recommendations—one from a teacher, coach, or advisor, and one from a peer. Faculty and staff members who are approached for a recommendation will receive a simple Google form to complete, making the process quick and easy. No formal letter is required, and the deadline for submitting recommendations is October 20.
Supporting Student Clubs with Budget Access
Thanks to the fundraising efforts of last year’s Student Advisory Board, student clubs now have more financial support than ever before. Each club is granted access to a $50 budget for purchases such as supplies or treats. Club sponsors are responsible for making these purchases and submitting receipts to the Business Office for reimbursement. Importantly, reimbursements will only be processed after approval from the Student Philanthropy Board’s Executive Treasurer.
Grants for Larger Club Projects
In addition to the standard $50 budget, student clubs can apply for a grant of up to $250 to support larger-scale projects or activities. These grant applications will be reviewed by the Student Philanthropy Board’s Executive Committee, with funds allocated based on the strength of the proposal and the potential impact on the community. The application window opens in October, and decisions will be made in November. After October, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all available funds are allocated for the school year.
Club leaders are encouraged to submit a detailed plan outlining how the funds will be used and the expected outcomes. At the end of the school year, clubs that receive grant funding must submit an Impact Report summarizing the project’s results, including successes and challenges.
Looking Ahead
The Student Philanthropy Board represents a new chapter in Whitfield’s commitment to developing compassionate and engaged student leaders. We look forward to witnessing the powerful impact this board will have on both our school and the larger community.
