Whitfield Freshmen Shine at ODP Interregional Soccer Showcase: Kayla Sellers and Tatum Douglas Make Missouri Proud

Whitfield freshmen Kayla Sellers and Tatum Douglas proudly represented the state of Missouri at the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Interregional Soccer Showcase in Memphis, Tennessee. Kayla and Tatum, also members of the varsity basketball team, both made it into the highly selective pool play game, featuring top soccer talent from 11 states.

In her role as center midfielder, Kayla demonstrated outstanding situational awareness and strategic thinking. Her nuanced understanding of the field, combined with quick, decisive actions both with and without the ball, led to multiple goals and assists. Kayla’s positioning between lines showcased her spatial awareness and ability to make rapid 360° scans of the field. She excelled in tight spaces, provided a wide passing range, and understood precisely when to advance play, switch fields, or secure possession.

Tatum stood out as a commanding presence. With a strong voice and clear communication, she led the defensive organization, directing teammates effectively to maintain structure and balance. Her anticipation skills shone as she consistently intercepted crosses and managed balls behind the defensive line, thanks to her well-judged starting positions. Tatum's bravery was evident in shot-stopping and in one-on-one situations, where she made a number of great saves.

Their selection for the selective pool play game at such a prestigious event speaks volumes of their capabilities and brings great pride to Whitfield School. As they return to basketball season, Kayla and Tatum bring with them a broadened athletic experience as well as the honor they have earned on the national stage. Congratulations, Kayla and Tatum!
