Student Leadership

As one of the six Habits of Mind & Heart, leadership is an essential component of The Whitfield School experience. Opportunities big and small, formal and informal, exist in and out of classrooms giving all students the chance to grow in their confidence and poise.

Cultivating the Confidence to Lead

With our classrooms organized by department rather than grade level, students of all ages interact daily as they walk the halls of our building.  As our young students look up to our older students, Upper School students lead by example and in doing so, shape the values of our school community.

In addition to traditional leadership positions like Student Council membership and athletic team captains, Whitfield students lead extracurricular clubs, classroom discussions, and parent-teacher conferences.

In a student body of our size, every student plays an important role in our school community.  There is room and opportunity for all students to hold leadership positions, as well as to participate in a wide variety of activities from athletics to dramatic productions to dozens of student-led clubs.  Whitfield students take pride in being involved, and embrace trying new things.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Whitfield’s flagship leadership opportunities include representation on Student Council and Honor Council.  Students in both groups, as well as others, participate in the Leadership Development Series to receive formal training for their roles.
