In the Geary Oklahoma Wrestling Invitational held January 10-11, 2020 Evan finished second overall with a record of 5-1. The Varsity Athlete of the Week for November 7, 2019 is Althea Nordlund ’23, a freshman on the varsity volleyball team. During last week’s district tournament, Althea showcased her ability on the court with 9 kills, 8 serving aces, and 0 errors in the semi-final game and then followed with 3 kills, 1 serving ace, and 0 errors in the championship match. Throughout the course of the season, Althea’s consistent focus and effort in practice allowed her to reach a new level of play and become much more involved in the team’s offense.

The Varsity Athlete of the Week for October 25, 2019 is Biaya Kayembe ’22. After the Warriors’ goalkeeper broke his wrist after the third game of the season, Biaya was asked to go from playing as a wide defender to goalkeeper. Biaya has embraced his new role and his ability to pass and receive the ball has given an added dimension to the team’s attack, as evidenced by last Friday's win over Clayton, the #4 ranked small school in the area. Placing the team’s well-being ahead of his own is exactly what he chose to do by playing in goal. This is the truest form of being a teammate, placing his interests behind that of the team.

The Varsity Athlete of the Week for October 15, 2019 is Alayah Lipnick '20, a senior on the field hockey team. Alayah is always ready to work hard in practice and is a strong leader on and off the field who is determined to win. Her speed and ability to carry the ball long distances down the field has given the Warriors many scoring opportunities all season long. Her stick work continues to improve each day and will be crucial as the team heads into the last week of the regular season. An example of Alayah's ability and determination was on display when she scored Whitfield’s lone goal against Nerinx, the #3 ranked team in the area.

The Varsity Athlete of the Week for October 10, 2019 is Tyler Harris '20, a senior Libero on the girls volleyball team. A constant communicator, Tyler is the first to provide positive feedback to her teammates during games and provides that same type of feedback during practices to help the team improve and complete the next drill. Her consistent serve receive allows the team to run an aggressive offense and be competitive in close matches. Because of her attention to detail and desire to improve, Tyler has made tremendous improvements in reading the opponent's offense and broadening her range on defense.
