Meet the Coaches

  • Head Coach

Entering his 15th season as the head coach of Whitfield School's varsity boys basketball team, Mike has guided his team to four Final Four appearances (2009, 2010, 2016 and 2017). During his tenure, the Warriors have won six district titles and have finished with an overall record of 281-151. For his team's success, in 2009, Mike was selected as the 2009 AP coach of the year and in 2017 was selected as the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association, Richard Fairchild, Class 3 Boys, Coach Of The Year. Proud to have coached all of his players, Mike has helped 20 players continue their dreams of playing basketball in college while receiving a quality education.

Mike's purpose statement for coaching is as follows: “I coach to take people of importance from where they are to where they want to go by reinforcing the values of responsibility and commitment all while being a quality teammate and working towards a team goal."

Mike is married to his wonderful wife Amy of 16 years and is a proud father of two children.

  • Assistant Coach
Gary is in his fifth season on the Whitfield staff. A local standout at Valley Park High School, Gary continued his basketball career at Villanova.

While at Villanova, Gary was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team, established a new Division 1 NCAA record for consecutive made free throws, named to the Honorable Mention All-Big East team, took home consecutive Sy Kaselman Free Throw Award, and finished with 1,799 points.

At the end of his collegiate career, Gary continued playing professionally in Europe in the Ukraine, Argentina, Hungary and Holland.

Gary's experiences will add to every players individual development and he is excited to get started with his high school coaching career.

  • Assistant Coach
David coached high school basketball in Kansas for four years before becoming the graduate assistant coach at Pittsburg State University. He has coached at Ritenour HS, St. Dominic HS, DeSmet HS, and Whitfield School since moving to the St Louis area. His most recent post was the Athletic Director and basketball coach at Barat Academy for seven years before returning to Whitfield this year. He has 30 years of coaching experience and is the founder and CEO of Champions Basketball Academy.
  • C-Team Head Coach
Coach Hogan is extremely excited to begin his fifth season at Whitfield. He has spent the past four years coaching at Brentwood High School where he was associate varsity head and head junior varsity coach. He helped lead the program in back-to-back conference championships for the first time in school history.

Brandon played basketball at Fredericktown High School located in Southeast Missouri. He was a three-year varsity starter, team captain, all-conference selection, and the Most Valuable Player, leading two teams to 19 win seasons.

Coach Hogan’s basketball philosophy revolves around three principles of development: help shape the lives of young people by instilling values and discipline, motivate each student athlete to reach their full academic potential and, to teach each player to be the most complete basketball player possible.

He is a graduate of Missouri State University where he earned a degree in Architecture and Design.
