Whitfield's varsity wrestling team won the 2022 MSHSAA Class 3 Wrestling Championship held February 17-19 at Mizzou Arena. The Warriors finished with 181.5 points. Hillsboro placed second with 125 points. This is Whitfield's second consecutive Class 3 team title, the sixth straight state championship, and 11th championship in the program’s history. 

This championship moves Whitfield's wrestling program into fourth place in all-time Missouri high school wrestling championships standings and second in the number of consecutive championships (since 1931). The Warriors are first in both categories since the program’s inception. In fact, no program since 1961 has achieved 11 state championships and six consecutive championships.

Additional highlights include:

• Evan Binder ’22 became Whitfield's third four-time state champion and Missouri's 36th four-time state champion

• Chase Brock ’22 finished his Whitfield career as a four-time state finalist, one of only six in Whitfield wrestling history

• AJ Rallo ’23 avenged a late January loss against Jackson Tucker from Hillsboro (second place team) to win his third state championship

• KJ Miley ‘22 endured what one doctor claimed to be a season-ending knee injury at the Geary Invitational in January, but returned to compete and win his second state championship

• Caiden Gagliano ’22 suffered a complete ACL tear in early December, but returned to compete and win his second district title and compete at his second state championship

• Freshman phenom Yashua Amen ’25 bumped up from 106 to 113 to earn his first state medal

Whitfield’s varsity wrestling team won the MSHSAA Class 3 state tournament on March 12, 2021. This is the Warriors fifth consecutive state title, the first in its new Class 3 classification and its 10th state title in the last 14 seasons. The Warriors crowned five individual state champions and finished with 182 team points. Evan Binder ’22 (43-0) and KJ Miley ’22 (31-0) completed perfect seasons.

Whitfield’s wrestling team moved up from Class 1 to Class 3 as a result of the new championship factor that is being applied to non-public and charter schools for the first time this school year by the Missouri State High School Activities Association rule. It is based on an athletic program’s success over the last six years, with points accumulated for district championships and state finishes.

Wrestlers Earn All-American Honors
Whitfield wrestlers Porter Matecki '24, AJ Rallo '23, Evan Binder '22, Gavin Linsman '24, and Logan Ferrero '21 competed in the NHSCA high school nationals held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA, April 23-25. Wrestlers from across the country compete in this premier tournament and the top eight wrestlers in each weight class/division earn All-American honors.

• Gavin Linsman '24 placed 4th out of a bracket of 62 wrestlers in the freshman 126lb weight class
• Porter Matecki '24 placed 8th out of a bracket of 99 wrestlers in the Freshman 106lb weight class
• Evan Binder '22 placed 3rd out of a bracket of 84 wrestlers in the Junior 120lb weight class

Whitfield's varsity wrestling team won the MSHSAA Class 1 state championship for the fourth consecutive year on February 22, 2020. This was the wrestling program’s ninth state title (2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020).

Whitfield’s varsity wrestling team won the  MSHSAA Class 1 Wrestling State Championship,  the eighth team title in program history (2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019). The Warriors  also won the Class 1, District 1 championship, the  19th title in the last 20 years. All 12 wrestlers  qualified for the state tournament.
