Leadership Letter

There are three very important and necessary components for a high functioning organization: Vision, Talent and Resources. With the close of our Campaign this summer, we will add resources to our already AMAZING faculty and staff, and to the strong vision of our board and leadership teams. Go team!

Taking a look back, several years ago the Whitfield community embraced one of the most thoughtful and comprehensive strategic plans I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. The plan focused on serving students and parents, empowering teachers and staff, and creating a sustainable Whitfield.

From there, Head of School John Delautre and his team implemented, adjusted, and built upon the vision. They have stayed true to the plan's goals and broad strategic priorities, and have used creativity and innovation as they put it into practice.

The plan ultimately resulted in a set of priorities that led us to Achieving the Vision: The Campaign for Whitfield. And, while the school’s leadership raised resources to set the final priorities of the strategic plan into motion, the school continued to evolve and advance its mission. Faculty continued to review and refine curriculum and help students to interpret, understand, and embrace the Habits of Mind and Heart; our extremely dedicated and talented faculty continued to steadily walk with our students on their journeys to success. Indeed, it is our teachers, staff and students who make achieving our vision a joy and honor to witness!

I want to thank this entire Whitfield community for being such a huge part of our Campaign’s success to raise the resources necessary to implement our vision. Funds raised coupled with Whitfield’s outstanding teachers and staff, will ensure that our collective resources will go far in enhancing the lives and learning of our students.

We have achieved a remarkable and rather rare organizational "hat trick": vision, talent and resources. With all of your help and dedication to our school and students, we can push forward and realize the countless benefits of this great accomplishment. Thanks to all for your support of our school and students!

Mass Crimes Documentary Project
For the last several years, seniors in Social Studies faculty member Michal Kwiecień's Topics in Modern World History: Human Rights and Genocide course examine cultural experiences of genocide and displacement in modern world history. The capstone experience of the course is the Mass Crimes Documentary Project.

We're Almost There!
Although the 2017-2018 school year has ended, Whitfield's Annual Fund drive remains open until June 30, 2018. We have nearly met our goal of $1 million, and need your help to get us there!

Calling all Shoppers!
The Parents' Council needs your help! We are taking a fresh approach to merchandising the Campus Store and want to know what you want to see in it! Are you looking for that "perfect" Whitfield t-shirt? Our ears are open—let us know what "perfect" means to you!

Uncovering the Past, Understanding the Present
For Whitfield's youngest students, our philosophy on Scholarship materialized through their final unit of the year, about archeology and Ancient Egypt. With teachers as educational facilitators—providing a framework and foundation for learning while letting students take the lead—in sixth grade social studies, students learn about the different branches of social sciences including history, archaeology, geography, economics, and sociology.

Alumni Program Is Launched
Calling all Whitfield Alumni! We are thrilled to announce the launch of our formal Alumni Program! Led by newly appointed Director of Alumni Relations, Megan Campos, Whitfield will begin a year of activities designed to bring alumni of all ages together, and back to campus!

Alumni Profile
Whitfield's alumni community is accomplished and diverse. We are proud to celebrate their successes and share their stories through our Alumni Profile feature in Whitfield eNews. Raj Bhuyan '86, our guest speaker at Commencement for the Class of 2018, has been active and engaged in the life of the school since his graduation. The Bhuyans are one of Whitfield's legacy families. Raj and wife Mindy are the parents of a Whitfield graduate, Lucy, Class of 2014 and a current student, Jillian, Class of 2020.
