2022 GALA HONOREES

John Delautre, Head of School 2011 - 2022

Over the last decade, as Head of School John Delautre has achieved an impressive number of accomplishments. An intellectual leader, John worked with the school community to develop and implement a visionary strategic plan; ran a successful $10 million dollar campaign to support that plan and improve the school’s financial strength; formalized the Habits of Mind & Heart as the centerpiece of the Whitfield experience; strengthened our academic program, faculty and administrative team; and, created and oversaw a dynamic international program that has greatly enriched the lives of so many in our school community. John also helped Whitfield attract and maintain a consistently strong enrollment of outstanding students.

Sheila McCarthy, Faculty 1987 - 2021

Sheila McCarthy is the longest-serving Whitfield faculty member, on staff from 1987 - 2021, and certainly one of the most beloved and well-respected. During her tenure she taught math and worked in the college counseling office, but is best known for her years teaching Latin. “Magistra,” as her students devotedly call her, epitomizes Warrior pride. When a Whitfield team is competing, it’s a safe bet that Sheila is in attendance – either as a fan, running the clock or overseeing the scorer’s table. The same holds true for concerts, plays, grade level exhibitions, art shows, and more. She will be remembered fondly for her enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to go above-and-beyond daily professional responsibilities, of being kind and doing the right thing, and of always being there for students, parents, colleagues and alumni.
