Mary L. Burke Merit Scholarship

All applicants who complete the application process by the application deadline will be considered for the Burke Merit Scholarship program. Recipients will be notified of their selection with their admission decision in February (grade 9) or March (grades 6-8, 10-12).

Mary L. Burke Merit Scholarships are granted for academic achievement. They are not awarded for athletic or extracurricular talent. Mary L. Burke Merit Scholars are high achieving students who also reflect values consistent with the Habits of Mind and Heart, including six areas of human potential:

1. Scholarship
2. Ethical conduct
3. Citizenship
4. Leadership
5. Mindfulness
6. Cultural competence

Merit scholarships awarded to students in middle school are renewable each year the student is in middle school; high school merit scholarships are renewable each year until the student graduates. In order to renew the scholarship, recipients must maintain a strong academic performance and be a positive contributor to the Whitfield community.

The Mary L. Burke Merit Scholarship Program is separate from Whitfield School’s need-based financial aid program; Burke Scholars may also apply for need-based financial aid. However, the total amount of aid to the student will not exceed the full amount of tuition.
