Parents Council, in tandem with our Director of Health and Wellness Ginny Fendell, often bring guest speakers to campus to speak on a variety of topics that relate to our school community. Many of these events have both a component that occurs during the school day, and also a version of the event that is open to the entire community during the evening so that families may attend as well. For example, in 2019 Whitfield hosted New York Times bestselling author and psychologist Lisa Damour, Ph.D, who gave an engaging and informative talk to our students about managing stress and anxiety. Later that evening, she presented a parent-focused version of this content at John Burroughs School with a talk titled “Guiding Students Into Adulthood: Helping them manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges along the way” which was open to all parents and community members.
