Major Gifts

Major gifts made by individuals and foundations have an immediate and profound impact on all who walk the halls of Whitfield, and continue to impact our students, our alumni and our faculty for years to come.  As a school and as a community we are stronger because of the generosity of so many.

Whitfield continues to seek funding for the initiatives below. Of course, many other needs exist. We welcome an opportunity to learn about your areas of greatest interest and develop a plan to align your passions with Whitfield's needs.

Capital Improvements
Whitfield's 2020 Master Plan outlines capital projects that will transform our campus over time. Visit the Master Facilities Plan webpage to learn about each specific project and how you can support them.
Fiscal Sustainability
Support of Whitfield’s fiscal sustainability helps eliminate our debt, bolsters our operating budget and contributes to the school’s long-term institutional health.
Tuition Assistance
A robust need-based tuition assistance program is an investment in the immeasurable potential of children.  It is critical for both the success of our school and the fulfillment of our mission.
Faculty Compensation
Recruiting and retaining a faculty of the highest caliber is vital to Whitfield’s student-centered educational experience.

Spend Down Fund

Major gifts to Whitfield can be structured in two primary ways.  In spend down funds, the gift principal is wholly available to support the project or program as intended.  Most often, the gift is divided to support the project or program over several years.

Endowment Fund

Endowment funds provide stable, perennial financial support.  Whitfield is glad to invest your major gift into our permanently restricted endowment.  You may choose to add your support to an existing endowment fund, or, in collaboration with school leadership, establish a new endowment fund for a project or program.  Endowments are designed to keep the principal corpus intact so it can grow over time, but allow Whitfield to use the annual investment income for programs, or operations, or purposes specified by the donor(s).

Whitfield’s permanently restricted and board-allocated endowment is a collection of funds that support students, faculty, staff and programs. Each year approximately 5% of the school’s operations are funded by the endowment harvest, making it one of three primary sources of revenue, along with tuition (77%) and annual gifts (14%).
Through gifts to The Campaign for Whitfield, the endowment has grown significantly over the past few years.  Additional endowment support is an investment in the financial health of Whitfield for generations of students to come.
