Whitfield faculty member Dr. Miller W. Boyd III will be a guest lecturer at the Missouri History Museum on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. as part of the museum's commemoration of Emancipation Day.
Emancipation Day represents the freedom of African Americans from the bondage of slavery and is celebrated at various times throughout the country. The ordinance to abolish slavery in Missouri was passed on January 11, 1865.
This year, in conjunction with Greenwood Cemetery, Dr. Boyd will give voice to those once enslaved and celebrate their lives and contributions to American society.
