With more than 30 years of combined experience at the secondary and collegiate levels, Whitfield's college counseling team is experienced, knowledgeable, accessible, and focused on our students and parents as they navigate the college process.
Barbara Sams, Director of College Counseling
Barbara joined the Whitfield College Counseling team beginning in 2017 with extensive college counseling experience. She most recently served as director of college counseling at Saint Louis Priory School and college and career specialist at Lafayette High School in the Rockwood School District. Before moving to the high school side of the profession, Barbara worked as a college admission representative, director of admission, and vice president of enrollment management, and dean of student life at five different institutions including Columbia University (NY), Rockhurst University (MO), Fairleigh Dickinson University (NJ), Bryant University (RI) and Westminster College (MO), her alma mater. Barbara has been an active member of her profession serving as an officer and board member at the national and state level for the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Missouri Association for College Admission Counseling and the National Catholic College Admission Association. In 2011, Barbara was selected as the Peggy Clinton Memorial Service Award recipient by MOACAC recognizing her years of service to the profession and students.

Amanda Henry, Assistant Director of College Counseling
Amanda Henry is Whitfield’s new Assistant Director of College Counseling. Amanda served most recently as the principal of La Salle Middle School, and her experience within the world of education has been rich and varied. After graduating from Washington University, she earned a Master of Education degree, served as a corps member for Teach for America, and did further graduate work in educational leadership. She has written and edited professionally, served as an educational research assistant (also at Washington University), taught special education, and along the way received several fellowships and awards. In her spare time Amanda earned an MBA at St. Louis University in marketing and entrepreneurship. Amanda will work under the guidance of Director of College Counseling Barbara Sams.
