In January 2011, Mark Anderson announced that the 2010-2011 school year would be his last as Head of School.  After 13 years at Whitfield, seven as Head of School, Mark and his family moved to Hockessin, Del., where he was named Head at Sanford School.  During his tenure, Whitfield experienced increased diversity, updated facilities, property expansion, and continued growth of the School's endowment.

Ruth Greathouse, Whitfield's Principal, served as Interim Head of School.  Ruth began her Whitfield career in 1985 as a full-time mathematics teacher, with additional responsibilities in physical education.  She became the Mathematics Department Chair in addition to her teaching duties.  She filled the newly created position of Dean of Students before becoming the Assistant Head of School. In 2000 she assumed the role of Principal.  Prior to Whitfield, Ruth taught at Rosati Kain and St. Roch’s Elementary School. She earned a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Communication Disorders from Saint Louis University.

In December 2011, Whitfield's Board of Trustees announced the appointment of John Delautre as the next Head of School.  John's tenure began July 1, 2012.
