Varsity Athlete of the Week
The Varsity Athlete of the Week for May 17, 2019 is Sam Bolourtchi '19, a senior on the varsity lacrosse team. In the Warriors' first postseason tournament game vs Northwest, Sam led the team with a season high 12 draw controls and six goals scored. Her contributions have extended beyond her stats. Recently, Sam was recognized in the game vs Ursuline as being the inspiration behind a post-game honor Ursuline gives to an opponent after each game. The S.A.M. Award, named for Sportsmanship, Athleticism, and Maturity, was inspired after Whitfield's 2018 game vs Ursuline, and started during the 2019 season. Our own Whitfield program adopted the honor and have carried on the tradition after each game, giving a shout-out to an opponent and challenging their team to carry on Ursuline's tradition. Sam's sportsmanship and competitiveness on the field has left a lasting impression not only on our Whitfield girls lacrosse program, but across St. Louis as well.
